Hieeeeeeeeee!

First of all, sorry for the long break. Summer happened. Anyway, our next queen is none other than amazing make-up artist Mathu Andersen! While not a drag queen professionally, Mathu is a trained make-up artist and never shy’s away from practicing on himself. Working on celebs like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera; cooperating with Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton; and published in Vogue, Allure, Cosmopolitan and more, it is safe to say Mathu is one of the most iconic make-up artists/drag icon of our time, especially on social media.

Mathu isn’t really a drag queen, but I felt I had to mention him. Not having a real “drag persona” he is Mathu in and out of drag. But that doesn’t make him any less interesting! His lovable Australian accent and witty sense of humour make him a pleasure to watch in the few appearances he makes, as he works mainly behind the cameras. He has extensive knowledge on celebs, models and the media, which really shows in his humour and well selected references. Yet, Mathu is far from a comedy queen. He is pure glamour. Above all, his sense of aesthetic, fashion, and art are the traits that shine the most from his work on himself in drag. His style is ver haute couture, always changing and evolving, always up with the trends and revolutionary. His iconic look is glamorous and chique, perfectly coiffed hair, an impeccable make-up job, and the not-to-be-ignored grey beard he never shaves off. This to me makes him even more edgy and modern, not all man, not all woman, but something individual and unique, in the words of iconic LGBT musical La Cage Aux Folles; “I am my own special creation!”. His looks are often very conceptual with strong themes and ideas, much like s fashion collection. Sometimes very glamour, other times the opposite and very animal-inspired, or natural, and always very edgy and misleading in its concepts of gender. It is no surprise that with his iconic look and fashion background he also does modeling work and has walked the runway in drag several times, including walking for Marco Marco. Lets not forget as well that Mathu is a key make-up artist for Rupaul on the show, though not a participant (he is known to spend up to 6 hours on a full transformation for Rupaul- welcome to the world of drag ladyboys!).

I absolutely admire and adore Mathu Andersen. Not only is he unique in his style and ideas, but he executes them so impeccably well it is hard not to take a second glance at any of his photos, especially those he does on himself. Make-up artist extraordinaire, and super model drag icon, Mathu andersen has to be one of the most talented make-up artists of our time, but often left out when talking about drag queens. Love him!

And remember, if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?
